Italy hosted the Olympics three times:
- 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo
- 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome
- 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin
During the performance at the Olympic Games, Italian athletes won 549 medals at the Summer Olympics and 106 at the Winter .
In total, Italians won 655 medals, being in sixth place among all countries participating in the Olympic Games by this indicator. And according to the number of gold Olympic medals (235), Italians take fifth place after the USA, USSR, Great Britain and Germany. Italy 11 times at the Summer Olympics and 3 times at the Winter Olympics finished in the top five teams in the number of medals won. In the top ten teams, Italians finished 20 times at the Summer Olympics, and another 13 times at the Winter.
The Italian National Olympic Committee was formed in 1908 and admitted to the IOC in 1913 .
