Biography
Herrera began his playing career in 1984 at Peñarole. Together with this club, he won the Uruguay Championship gold medals in 1985 and 1986 , as well as the 1987 Libertadores Cup .
In 1989 he moved to the Spanish Figueres, and after a season - to the Italian Cagliari, where he spent 5 seasons and the best years in the European phase of his career. After 1995, he changed clubs quite often, playing in the championships of Mexico , Argentina , Uruguay, and even China and Indonesia . He finished his football career in 2003 at Peñarol, having played 2 matches for the season and thus becoming the champion of Uruguay for the third time in his career.
Herrera made his debut in the Uruguayan national team in 1988 . For 9 years in the national team held 56 matches and scored 4 goals. He participated in three America's Cups (1989, 1993, 1995), as well as in the final stage of the 1990 World Cup. The winner of the America's Cup in 1995, which was a record for Celeste, was the 14th in the history of the tournament (only Argentina has the same indicator).
