Kotchbebi ( cor. 꽃제비 ) is a Korean term for homeless children in North Korea . The term literally means “eating flowers” [1] . According to one of the etymological reconstructions, it goes back to the Russian word "nomadic" [2] . In the DPRK, the term is prohibited for use in official publications. [3]
According to the Good Friends , a Buddhist human rights organization, most of the Kkotchebi eat once a day. Mostly their food consists of herbs and vegetables [4] . Hunger also forces them to gather in groups, beg and steal . [3]
