VPK-3924

Armored personnel carriers of the military-industrial complex VPK-3924 "Medved" (abbreviated from the Military-Industrial Company ) - an armored vehicle with enhanced mine protection, the Russian analogue of vehicles like MRAP ( English mine resistant ambush protected - protected from mines and ambush attacks). VPK-3924 "Bear" was developed by order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs VV jointly by specialists from the Department of Wheel Machines of Moscow State Technical University. N. E. Bauman and the "Military Engineering Center" from the "Military Industrial Company" [2] in the framework of the ROC BTR-BB ( armored personnel carrier for internal troops). The original code of the car was: SPM-3 "Bear" [3] [4] (abbr. Special police car ). At present [ when? ] There are two prototypes.

In 2008, the GAZ plant (Nizhny Novgorod) produced the first prototype of the armored explosion-proof car GAZ-3924 "SPM-3" with the engine YaMZ-7601.10.

In 2009, the first prototype was externally refined (modified hood mask, hood, bumper, etc.).

Subsequently, all work on the organization of manufacture was transferred to VPK LLC, which entrusted the assembly of the second prototype (upgraded with the YaMZ-536 engine, 312 hp), Celeste LLC (Nizhny Novgorod). The second prototype was made in 2010 already under the index VPK-3924.

The first prototype externally differs from the second in sharp angular body shapes.

Automobile production was entrusted to the Arzamas Engineering Plant , where the first running model was made in 2016.

Content

Purpose and scope

The Bear can be used as an armored personnel carrier, chassis for installing ATGMs, mortars and other weapons systems, protected by command post, reconnaissance and patrol, medical vehicles, or convoy escort vehicles (unlike armored personnel carriers, SPM-3 can be used on general roads use).

Design Features

The machine has a hood housing. The crew of the car - 2 people, landing - up to 10 people. Hinged doors for landing and landing are provided at the rear of the hull. The bottom has a V-shape, which helps to efficiently dissipate the energy of the explosion. The car suspension is completely independent, torsion bar, unified with the BTR-90 suspension. The machine’s transmission used serial units and assemblies used on trucks of the Ural family. The engine of the first prototype is YaMZ 7601.10 (diesel, six-cylinder, V-shaped, 300 hp). The declared overhaul life of the vehicle is 250,000 km, for the engine - 800,000 km [2] , which exceeds the similar indicators of most wheeled and tracked armored vehicles. Cruising range of 1400 km. In the second and third samples, an in-line 6-cylinder YaMZ-536 engine with a power of 312 hp was installed.

Defense and armament

The machine has a spaced differential armored protection. The body and glass can withstand the hit of a 7.62 mm armor-piercing bullet fired from the SVD rifle from a distance of 100 meters ( ballistic protection class 6a (GOST R 509-63 ). The machine withstands blasting of 6 kg of TNT under the wheel of the explosive device (class 2a of mine protection according to STANAG 4569. ) High ground clearance (500 mm) and a relatively high gross vehicle weight (12,000 kg) contribute to the high mine resistance along with the V-shaped bottom. Also, the machine has a filter-ventilation unit.

It is possible to install various types of weapons on the machine, depending on the tasks performed. It can be either machine guns of various calibers, or ATGM systems, automatic grenade launchers, etc.

Perspectives

As of June 2014, VPK-3924 “Medved” is completing state tests for all types of external influences, including undermining [5] . Based on the test results, an improved model of the machine was made. The main directions of changes: the use of the promising YaMZ-536 engine (diesel in-line six-cylinder with a capacity of 312 hp), further strengthening of ballistic and mine protection, the use of remotely controlled weapons and special equipment, and improved ergonomics. In June 2011, a shelling of the car was carried out, however, undermining tests have not yet been carried out.

Customers from the VV MVD showed interest in the machine (in 2013 they plan to supply them with a pilot batch of five vehicles [6] ), and developers also consider the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation as clients. However, the latter have already announced the upcoming purchase of similar vehicles of the Typhoon unified family [ 2015 ] , which are more suitable for use by army units, by 2015.

In 2012, the Military-Industrial Company planned to begin full-fledged serial production of the car in 2014. The market capacity is estimated at 500 cars per year. The ratio of sales in the domestic and foreign markets is projected in the proportion of 50% to 50%. Among possible foreign buyers, manufacturers name Kazakhstan , Azerbaijan , Uzbekistan , countries of Africa and the Middle East [6] .

In 2013, the Russian Arms Expo-2013 exhibition in Nizhny Tagil presented for the first time an Ural-BB armored vehicle with a 6 × 6 wheel arrangement, designed according to the Motovoz-2 program on the terms of reference of the Main Command of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs based on the chassis of the Ural-4320 multi-purpose vehicle . The armored car is equipped with the Euro-4 standard YaMZ engine, has MRAP mine protection and is made with a single-volume armored body, which can accommodate up to 17 fighters with full armament. This car will become the basis for a whole family of tactical protected vehicles with a high degree of unification and different wheel formulas, including 4 × 4. [eight]

In 2014, it underwent a test cycle, including undermining. The prototype was destroyed.

In 2016, the third prototype was created, finalized according to the test results. It was presented at the exhibitions Army-2016, Kadex, etc.

In November 2018, all work on the project was terminated.
