The length of the body of the remez is about 12 cm, weight up to 20 g. Wing length up to 60 mm. A gray head with a black mask and a red-brown back are striking. Young birds do not have a black mask yet. Remez vaguely resembles the color of a male ordinary julan . A subtle whistle sounds something like “rations”.
From April to October, some remezas migrate to Eastern and Central Europe and fly to the winter in the Mediterranean. Some birds remain in the Mediterranean for a whole year. Remez prefers to settle in thickets along the banks of rivers, lakes and swamps.
Remez seeks food for himself mainly on trees , in shrubs , bushes and in bulrushes . It feeds on insects, spiders and seeds .
The breeding season lasts from May to June. The male builds several fluffy, round nests of plant fibers, fluff and seeds on branches hanging over the water. The bag-shaped nest is approximately 17 cm high and 11 cm wide. The female chooses the best nest for herself, helps in the final preparations and then lays from 5 to 8 eggs. After about 2 weeks, the chicks hatch. Remez can have several partners. The European population has approximately 1 million breeding pairs.
