Administrative map of Wales
The 1994 Local Government Act, approved by the British Parliament , Wales is divided into 22 unitary administrative units (counties [1] ). These include: 9 counties, 3 cities with city status [2] and 10 counties. Unitary units, despite the difference in the name of the status, have equal rights.
Some areas of Wales are different from those identified in the 1994 Act. The following changes are made by the Act of 1996 and are valid from April 2, 1996:
- Aberconwy and Coluin County renamed Conway ;
- Anglesey County - in Isle of Anglesey [1] ;
- Carnarvonshire and Merionetshire County - to Guineth [1] ;
- Cardiganshire County - to Keredigion ;
- Neath and Port Talbot County — at Neath Port Talbot [1] .
