Hardeman County is a county located in the United States , Texas . It was officially formed in 1889 and named after the brothers Hardyman, Bailey and Thomas Jones, the first settlers, lawyers and politicians who participated in the development and adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence . As of 2000 , the population was 4,724. The district center is the city of Kuan , where most of the population lives.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,805 km², of which 1,801 km² are land and 4 km² or 0.23% are water bodies.

Demographics
According to the 2000 census [1] , 4,724 residents lived in the okrug, consisting of 1,943 households and 1,319 families. The population density was 3 people per 1 square kilometer. There were 2358 residential buildings, with a density of coverage of 1 building per 1 square kilometer. The racial composition of the population was 85.41% white, 4.83% black or African American , 0.76% Native American , 0.3% Asian, 7.09% other races, and 1.61% were representatives of two or more races . 14.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
Of 1943 households, 29.9% raised children under the age of 18 years, 54.7% of married couples who lived together, in 10.4% of families women lived without husbands, 32.1% did not have families. At the time of the census, 29.5% of the total number lived on their own, 18% of people over 65 who lived alone. On average, 2.4 households were accounted for each household; the average family size was 2.97 people.
The indicators for age categories in the district were as follows: 25.4% residents under 18 years of age, 7.5% from 18 to 24 years old, 22.6% from 25 to 44 years old, 24.3% from 45 to 64 years old, and 20 , 2% over 65 years. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there are 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.2 males.
The average household income in the district was $ 28,312, for a family - $ 33,325. The average earnings of a man were $ 26,683 against $ 18,566 for a woman. The per capita income was $ 16,824. About 14.6% of families and 17.8% of the total population were below the poverty line . Among them were 26% of those who were not yet 18 years old, and 13.4% of those who were already over 65 years old.

Georgia-Pacific gypsum plant operates 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Kuana, in the small Akme community.
Political orientation
In the 2008 presidential election, John McCain received 75.17% of the vote against 23.39% of the Democrat Barack Obama. [2]
In the Texas House of Representatives , Hardimen County is a member of the 68th District [3] . The interests of the county are represented by Republican Drew Springer of Münster [4] .

Attractions
Copper Breaks State Park, located under the jurisdiction of the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife, is 19 kilometers south of Kuana. The park is located near the Pis River and is considered one of the areas of the Texas long buffalo.
Six miles (9.7 km) east of Quana is Lake Pauline.
