History
The very first settlement was founded on the site of the future city by a group of freed slaves after the end of the US Civil War . The city leadership was elected on June 5, 1925 , then the official name of the city was recorded.
In fact, until the 1950s, the population of the city did not exceed 100 people. The city received rapid development from 1950 to 1960 , in connection with the construction of the John F. Kennedy Space Center , the construction of which was carried out 24 kilometers to the north. During this period of time, the population of the city increased many times, mainly people associated with the US space program settled in the city.
The gray streak came to the city in 1975 , when the Apollo program stopped its development in the USA. In this regard, unemployment sharply increased in the city, which led to an outflow of the population and a decrease in the value of real estate.
