Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR 1978

The IV Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR - was held in Sverdlovsk , in March 1978 . Skiers competed in Bakuriani , tobogganing on the Sigulda track .

The champion of the Olympics simultaneously received the title of champion of the USSR.

The opening and closing ceremonies of the Spartakiad final took place at the Central Stadium in Sverdlovsk.

In total, the competition was a huge number of participants - over 31 million athletes ^[1] . The final competitions were attended by 59 national teams of the Union republics, the cities of Moscow and Leningrad , the regions of the RSFSR with a total number of 2007 people, of which 593 were women ^[1] . For the first time, athletes from the Uzbek and Kyrgyz SSR participated in the final competitions. Among the athletes, 27 honored masters of sports (including world and Olympic champion skiers Zinaida Amosova (Sverdlovsk), G. Kulakova ( Udmurt ASSR , won 10 km), R. Smetanina ( Komi ASSR ), Nina Rocheva, skiers Vasily Rochev (took 2nd place at a distance of 50 km), S. Savelyev, Evgeny Belyaev (Leningrad, won at a distance of 50 km), biathletes A. Tikhonov , N. Kruglov, A. Elizarov, skaters Tatyana Averina (Moscow, won distances of 1500 m, the result of 2 minutes 16.37 seconds), Sergey Marchuk (Moscow, twice - 5000 and 10000 m, 7.12.95 and 14.47.28 respectively), nevermind Christians Sergey Volkov (5th place in men's single skating), Vladimir Kovalev (2nd place), sleigh riders Vera Zozulya, Dainis Bremze and Aigars Krikis), 118 masters of sports of international class, 641 masters of sports of the USSR, 494 candidates for masters of sports , 487 athletes of the I category, 240 athletes of other categories.

The winners were famous ski jumping athletes V. Pirozhkov , skaters M. Cherkasova and S. Shahrai , I. Bobrin , skaters Lyubov Sadchikova ( Smolensk region , 500 meters away , 42.70 sec. Result), Natalya Zaborskikh ( Gorky region , 1000 m, 1 min. 27.93 sec.), Natalya Petruseva (Moscow, 3000 m, 4.51.51), Valery Muratov (Moscow, 500 m, 39.05), Vladimir Lobanov (Moscow, twice - 1000 m and 1500 m, 1.18.20 and 2.00.61 respectively) and others. Young athletes became winners: in skiing Nikolay Zimyatov, Vadim Pankov and Nikolay Pyatygin, Natalya Kuznetsova, Alexander Churikov , skaters Nikolai Prein, Sergey Filippov, Vitaliy Zazersky, skiers Viktor Sanakoev, Alexander Zhirov, biathletes Vladimir Alikin, Vladimir Artemyev, in figure skating - Veronika Pershina and Marat Akbarov (Sverdlovsk region, 2nd place among junior pairs), Kira Ivanova (2nd place among juniors), etc.

The team of the 1st team of the RSFSR (Nikolay Bazhukov, Sergey Savelyev, Nikolay Zimyatov, Vasily Rochev) won the relay of skiers 4-10 km away, the team of the Sverdlovsk region took 2nd place.
