II Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR - held in Sverdlovsk , Gorky , Terskol and Kiev in March 1966 .
In total, 10 million Soviet athletes became participants in the Spartakiad [1] .
The sports day was dedicated to the XXIII Congress of the Communist Party of the USSR .
The champion of the Olympics simultaneously received the title of champion of the USSR.
The opening and closing ceremonies of the Spartakiad final took place at the Central Stadium in Sverdlovsk.
In speed skating, Sverdlovsk resident Boris Gulyaev was the best at a distance of 500 m (result 41.3 seconds), Eduard Matusevich ( Byelorussian SSR ) - 1500 m (2 minutes 08.3 seconds) and all-around (total 180.501 points), Muscovite Valery Lavrushkin - 5000 m (7.46.3), Stanislav Selyanin from Irkutsk - 10000 m (15.51.4), Sverdlovsk Valentina Stenina - three times, at 500 (46.2), 1500 m (2.25.0) and all-around (197.516) ), debutants from Chelyabinsk Tatyana Sidorova - per 1000 m (1.37.7), Anna Sablina - 3000 m (5.22.5). Competitions were held at the Central Stadium. Competitions skiers were held on the Uktus mountains in Sverdlovsk. The 5 km race was won by Sverdlovsk claudia Boyarsky , Muscovite Alevtina Kolchina became the second. A. Tikhonov from Novosibirsk attracted attention. In the 50 km ski race, V. Vedenin was the third. The men's team 4 × 10 km was won by the Moscow team (Akentiev, Vedenin, Voronchikhin, Nasedkin), the Novosibirsk team finished second (Smirnov, Solodyankin, Lyazgin, Tikhonov, Tikhonov improved the result at the last stage). Ski jumpers competed on the new Uktus ski jump , delivered directly to the Spartakiad. With a huge crowd of spectators, the 20-year-old Sverdlovsk resident Valery Emelyanov won. The hockey tournament was held in Gorky, in the final the national teams of Moscow and the Sverdlovsk region met, with a score of 6: 4 Muscovites won. Skaters competed on the ice of the Kiev Sports Palace. Galina Grzhibovskaya, a pupil of the capital’s stadium of young pioneers, won the competition in the free program , having received silver in the sum of two types, Tamara Moskvina received a gold medal. The famous Soviet couple L. Belousov - O. Protopopov won the competition in pair skating . Downhill competitions were held on the slopes of Mount Cheget ( Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ), on the track length of St. 2500 m, Muscovite Vitaly Monastyrev won in this form (time - 1 min. 52.1 sec.).
The victory in the team competition was won by the Moscow team, in second place the team of Leningrad .
