Luigi Rodolfo Boccherini ( Italian: Luigi Boccherini ; February 19, 1743 , Lucca — May 28, 1805 , Madrid ) was an Italian cellist and composer of the 18th century.

Biography

Boccherini received his primary musical education under the guidance of his father, double bass player Leopold Boccherini, and D. Vannuccini.

At the age of 13, Boccherini performed as a cellist with concerts in his hometown of Lucca. Later he played in the orchestra of the city theater Lucca. To show his art in Europe, made a big tour. He visited Vienna, Paris - the largest music centers in Europe. At the same time, Boccherini begins his composing activities.

In 1769, Boccherini went to Madrid , where he settled. For some time he served as court musician and composer Infanta Louis. In 1787 he received an order from the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II to compose various works. For works devoted to the king, Boccherini received the title of court composer.

At this time, the composer was still living in Madrid and was in a difficult financial situation due to the death of the infant. Soon he met the great man Marquese Benavente, who was an avid guitar lover. By his order, many of his chamber works Boccherini processed so that they present the guitar part.

Creativity

Boccherini was a very prolific composer. Among his works are several oratorios, cantatas, masses, operas. The main place in his work is instrumental music (about 450 works).
