Complex Uapoka , isp. Complejo Huapoca is a group of archaeological sites in the west of the Mexican state of Chihuahua . It is located about 18 km (on the map; there is no direct road due to the rugged terrain) to the west of the city of Madera near the thermal springs of the resort of Uapok on the river of the same name.
Here are found several groups of houses. Some groups consist of cave dwellings with a mud wall in front, others from similar houses under overhanging rocky ledges. According to the architectural tradition and finds, the Uapoka complex is close to the cultural traditions of Mogolion and Anasazi . Detailed excavations have not yet been carried out.
The most important groups of the complex currently available for tourists are:
- Big cave , isp. Cueva Grande to the west of the river Uapoka: buildings in a very large cave from which a waterfall flows down, some are two-storeyed.
- Eagle's nest , isp. Nido del Aguila consists of several small houses under a rocky ledge.
- Snake Cave , isp. Cueva de la Serpiente with houses inside the cave, with two entrances and a corridor connecting them, passing through a ledge in the rock.
