History

The main building of St. Petersburg State University

Since 1994, “Sociologist’s Day” was regularly celebrated at St. Petersburg State University (SPbU) at the Faculty of Sociology , which is actually the cradle of Russian academic (university) sociology. The main initiator of the introduction of the holiday was Asalkhan Olzonovich Boronoev , the first dean of the Faculty of Sociology at St. Petersburg State University [2] [3] .

The faculty and students of the Faculty of Sociology of St. Petersburg chose the date on November 14 for the "sociologist's day" in the Russian Federation, it is not by chance, it has deep historical roots. Their analysis of historical annals of the beginning of the 20th century showed that on this day, November 14, 1901 , in the capital of France , Paris, on the Sorbonne Street, the Russian Higher School of Social Sciences began its work [4] . It was at this school that one of the world's first sociological faculties functioned. Four years later, the school was closed, but the case that was started by Peter Lavrov , Maxim Kovalevsky , Pavel Milyukov , Nikolai Kareev , Evgeny De Roberti and other prominent scholars, is still alive [5] because many Russian opposition politicians were trained there and already on their knowledge the foundation of Russian sociology was created.
