The NATO Accessory Rail is a rail interface system standardized by NATO in accordance with the new STANAG 4694 modernization agreement adopted in May 2009. The NATO accessory bar is the new standard for additional equipment for small arms that are mounted to it.
The NATO accessory strip is backward compatible with the MIL-STD 1913 standard (adopted in 1995), which is better known as the Picatinny Rail . In the new standard, the metric dimensions of the strap are added, measurements and tolerances are changed. Instead of using only inclined faces, it is recommended to use the upper surface of the bar for fixing as well [1] . The NATO accessory bar has been developed by many experts from various well-known weapons companies, including Aimpoint AB , Beretta , Colt Firearms , FN Herstal and Heckler & Koch .
NATO is continuing to develop a standard for a new bracket that would provide power to accessories [2] [3] .
