Rail interface system ( English Rail Interface System - RIS , also found in English Rail Accessory Systems - Russian rail accessory system , in English Rail Integration System - Russian rail integration system ; the term Rail rail system is also found) - a system of interconnected mechanical devices on hand-held small arms , which is designed to attach additional accessories to the weapon. One type of rail interface system allows you to quickly attach and detach many different devices to hand weapons: optical sights , grenade launchers , under-barrel shotguns , tactical lights , laser target indicators , bipods , vertical front handles , etc.
The rail interface system, as the name implies, is a complex of rail mounts, mainly brackets that are directly attached to the weapon body. Many weapons are initially produced with built-in rail interface systems (e.g. Steyr AUG A3 ).
