Mythology

Waigi are one-eyed giants with seven goals, among them there are even hundred-headed ones. Ougs were created by God much earlier than the Narts and were not human. The Waigis, endowed with tremendous growth and strength, fought against the Narts, but constantly, despite their size, they suffered a defeat because they were stupid and clumsy.

Some characters of the Nart epic were in good, friendly relations with the Waig, among them Atsyrukhs - the daughter of the heavenly deity Khura - who was brought up by the Waig and lived in their seven-tier castle, stands out. In the Nart epic, the Waigi Tychyfyrt Mukara and Yeltagan are most often mentioned. The Narts paid tribute to the Waig Tychyfyrt Mukara in the form of beautiful girls. Batradz killed him in a duel.

The story of another waig Yeltagan is related to Soslan , who sewed a fur coat from the scalps of sleds and killed Yeltagan only because he had golden hair that Soslan used on the collar of his fur coat.

The Waigi Alaf (who went to the sleds for dancing and crippled young people), Badzanag, Mukara, and Bybyts are also known.
