History
It was first mentioned in 1456 [1] under the name Shishkovtsy . Since 1617 it is known as Novoselitsa . It was part of the Moldavian Principality . In 1715-1812, it was part of the Khotinsky Nakhiye.
According to the Bucharest Peace Treaty of 1812, it became part of the Russian Empire . In 1828, after the border between the Austrian and Russian empires was settled, it was divided into Austrian and Russian parts according to a small stream, which at that hour branched off from the rivulet Rokitna and flowed into the Prut (now its channel has a completely different look). In the Austrian Novoselitsa entered the village of Lower Stroesti, which was previously an independent community. Customs offices were opened in Novoselitsa: in 1817 - in the Russian part (since 1814 a customs station operated there), in 1847 - in the Austrian. In 1850, a ferry crossing across the Prut River was established. From the second half of the 19th century , industry began to develop in Novoselitsa. In 1870, a steam mill, distillery, oil mill and 2 leather factories worked. An additional impetus for the development of Novoselitsa was the laying of the railway (in 1884 Chernivtsi - Novoselitsa and in 1892 Zhmerinka - Novoselitsa), making the town a significant transit point [4] .
During World War I, Novoselitsa became the scene of fierce fighting and was devastated. From February to November 1918, the Russian part of Novoselitsy was occupied by Austro-Hungarian troops. Since November 1918, Novoselitsa was ruled by Romania . The name of the city was changed to Noua Sulitsa .
In June 1940, Novoselitsa became part of the USSR and received the status of a city [3] [1] . In November 1940, the Novoselitsky district was created and Novoselitsa became a district center [4] .
After the start of World War II, it was occupied by German-Romanian troops and from July 1941 to March 1944 was part of Romania.
On December 14, 1944, the publication of the district newspaper in the Ukrainian and Moldavian languages began here [5] .
In 1974, a reinforced concrete plant, a distillery, a cheese factory, a fruit and vegetable factory, a poultry plant, a food factory, a furniture factory and a medical school were operating here [3] .
In January 1989, the population was8384 people [6] , the basis of the city’s economy at that time was a furniture factory and food industry enterprises [1] .
In 1944-1991, a school, a communications center, and a medical school operated in Novoselitsa. There were a poultry farm, an oil mill, a soap factory, leather, reinforced concrete products, asphalt, wine (distillery), cheese factories, a gustatory and a furniture factory. The construction of a meat factory was begun. Since 1991, Novoselitsa has been part of independent Ukraine. The city has opened a gymnasium, lyceum, medical college. There are a poultry farm, a cheese factory, CJSC Pobut, and other private institutions [4] .
In May 1995, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision on the privatization of a cheese factory, a poultry farm, district agricultural chemistry [7] , and in July 1995 a decision on the privatization of PMK No. 152 [8] was approved.
In 1997, the medical school was reorganized into a branch of the Chernivtsi State Medical Institute [9] .
