The species epithet is given to the plant in honor of Johann Gmelin , one of the first researchers of the Siberian flora .

Botanical Description
A small aquatic or marsh perennial plant with thin bare stems 5-20 cm long.
The lower leaves are long-leaved, the upper ones are almost sessile. In bog forms, the leaf blade is 10-15 mm wide, kidney-shaped, divided into 3 lobes, the middle of which is 3-split, and the lateral ones are 5-split.
Flowers up to 10 mm in diameter. Sepals 5, yellow petals 5, slightly longer than sepals.
The fruit consists of bare fruit with hook-shaped noses.
It blooms in the second half of summer.
Distribution and Ecology
On the wet banks of rivers and lakes , the outskirts of swamps , in shallow standing reservoirs.
