Description
Beetle 20–26 mm long, head and pronotum copper-red in color. Elytra greenish-bronze, their sculpture is represented by pits of various sizes, almost cellular. Primary spaces are divided into long narrow tubercles of black color with deep fossae. The underside of the body is black, the sides with a metallic tint.
Distribution
Endemic of Sakhalin . It lives in the mountainous areas of the island. They occur sporadically, forming local sparse clusters, mainly in spruce-fir grassy and green-moss forests, less often in mixed forests at an altitude of 50-500 m, much less often in the area of the Kuril bamboo and cedar dwarf forests. The general nature of the distribution is heterogeneous.
Species biology
The biology of the species has not been studied. Polyphage predator, feeds on mollusks and other terrestrial invertebrates. An increase in the daily activity of adult beetles associated with the breeding period in the foothills of the Susunai Range was noted in the first ten days of July. The beetles that had gone for wintering were found in the butt part of rotten fir stumps.
Strength
In general, the number is universally low and is constantly decreasing due to a decrease in the area of mountain coniferous and mixed forests, as a result of human activities, and the capture of beetles by collectors.
Security Notes
It is listed in the Red Book of Russia (category II - a declining species)
