Story
The film begins with the landing of a group of Rangers - cadets (Muller, Dunbar, Pike, Kendal, Castro, Nunez) commanded by Sergeant West from a helicopter over the jungles of South America, somewhere in the Panama Canal zone. A few days later, when the helicopter flies to the gathering point to pick up the cadets, its pilots see one of them carrying the wounded other and firing from the third. No other group members. In the shootout, the third is killed, and the remaining two are picked up by a helicopter. Dunbar is the surviving cadet, Kendall is wounded, and Muller is dead in the jungle.
The young investigator Captain Julie Osborne is investigating the incident, but the base’s commander, Colonel Stiles, invites the former ranger and his co-worker Tom Hardy to assist in the investigation, as Dunbar under investigation sends a note to Osborne that he will only testify to the ranger. Hardy after the army moved into the department to combat drugs, but at this time suspended from work due to suspicion of taking bribes. Osborne strongly opposes Hardy’s involvement in the investigation, but is forced to accept it. In the next few hours, Hardy and Osborne interrogate Dunbar and Kendal alternately and notice some inconsistencies in their stories. Subsequently, Kendal dies from poisoning, but before he dies, he manages to draw the figure eight on Osborne's palm. She recalls that the number eight was also drawn on Dunbar’s note, and then Hardy tells her about his conversation with the colonel, in which he admitted that they had a group for special assignments called “Eight” at the base, which later deserted and turned into a gang of drug dealers. In the future, Dunbar says that he and other cadets used a synthetic drug that helped them cope with the exhausting workouts that Sergeant West subjected them to. Drug production was handled by the chief doctor of the local hospital Pete Wilmer, Osborne's former lover. During the interrogation, Wilmer tells everything he knows, and then reveals a shocking fact: it turns out that the real Dunbar is black, and the one who pretended to be himself is actually Pike. Hardy and Osborne remove Pike from the plane on which he was to be sent to the States, and during the interrogation he admits that all six cadets were involved in cocaine trafficking. West was going to expose them, but did not have time. Then, in a private conversation, Hardy exposes Stiles as the organizer of the drug business and the killer of Kendal. After an unsuccessful bribe attempt, Stiles sends a gun to Hardy, but Osborn is killed by the hand, which accidentally overhears their conversation. Before leaving the base, Hardy gives Osborne his phone number and advises not to worry about Stiles' murder. Then Osborne suddenly realizes that Hardy himself is behind all the events that have happened. Osborne goes after him and on the way notices Pike getting into his car. As a result, Osborne comes after them in a diner in the basement of a residential building. There, she is surprised to find the living West and all the cadets, with the exception of the dead Müller and Kendal. All of them, including Hardy, are the G8, the secret counterintelligence unit, all the rumors that they are deserters and drug traffickers, they themselves distributed as part of their legend, and everything that happened was part of the operation to expose the drug syndicate acting on the Clayton base. . As a result, West, assessing the skills Osborne, invites her to join them.
