3-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1

3-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, type 1 - human enzyme encoded by the HSD3B1 gene on the 1st chromosome . Being the first of two 3bHSD isoenzymes, it is expressed primarily in the placenta and non-steroidogenic tissues. Unlike HSD3B2 , mutations of the HSD3B1 gene are not associated with any known diseases, probably due to the fact that such mutations lead to the death of the child at the stage of gestation.
