History
The idea of ββcreating the group first came to Aaron and Nathan in 2002, when they attended one of the meetings of Earth First! . In April 2003, they made their first attempts to record a demo. A little later, guitarist and vocalist Nick Paul joined them, and as such, the group recorded the first demo in 2004. However, Nick Paul soon left the group, but he was soon found a replacement in the person of Richard Dalen. In this composition, the group recorded another demo in 2005, and two albums.
There are now four albums and two mini-albums in WITTR's discography.
Peculiarities of Sounding and Ideology
Unlike many underground black metal bands, Wolves in the Throne Room play quite complex music with a strong admixture of dark ambient , as well as with elements of folk metal , doom metal and even crust punk . Almost all the songs of the group have a duration of more than 10 minutes. Subsequently, this sound became characteristic of many other groups from the same region (Skagos, L'Acephale, Alda).
In terms of ideology, WITTR is also very different from other black metal bands. The main theme of their texts is not Satanism and misanthropy (as usual in tru-black), but nature and mythology, which brings them closer to pegan metal . In their interviews, they declare that they reject the ideas of NSBM , and although they do not have specific political views, they support green anarchism and environmentalism [1]
