Konstantin Merkuryevich Sytnik ( ukr. Kostyantin Merkurіyovich Sitnik ; June 3, 1926 , Lugansk , Ukrainian SSR , USSR - July 22, 2017 , Kiev , Ukraine ) - Soviet and Ukrainian scientist, political figure. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1973), Honorary Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Ukraine . One of the founders of the Ukrainian Republican Party "Cathedral" . In 1980 - 1985 - Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR .

Scientific Activities

In 1949 he graduated from the T. Shevchenko Lugansk Pedagogical Institute . Since 1950 he has been working at the Institute of Botany named after N.Kholodnogo, in which he made his way from graduate student to director. In 1974-1988 vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Honorary Director of the Kholodny Institute of Botany, Chairman of the Commission for the Study of Heritage of Academician Vernadsky, President of the Ukrainian Botanical Society.

Political activities

He was a member of the CPSU, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (1982-1990). Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR (1980-1990), chairman of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR (1980-1985).

Since 1996 he has been involved in politics as a representative of a national democratic movement. Joined the People's Democratic Party. After the split of the party at the IV congress (May 1999), when the majority supported Leonid Kuchma as a presidential candidate, he left the NDP.

In May 1999, together with Anatoly Matvienko, he created the Open Politics All-Ukrainian Association. In November 1999, together with some other national democratic associations, they created the Sobor Party. In 1998-2006, people's deputy of Ukraine. In the 2002 elections, he was elected from the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc. After another split in the Sobor party in 2005, the supporters of Tymoshenko and Yushchenko withdrew from active political activity.

He was awarded the Order of Lenin , the October Revolution , the Red Banner of Labor .

Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise IV Art. ( June 3, 2006 ) - for his outstanding personal contribution to the formation and development of national science, many years of fruitful legislative and social and political activities [1]

Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise V Art. ( April 17, 1998 ) - for outstanding personal services to the Ukrainian state in the development of basic science, the formation of a national school of space biology, and active public activity [2]

He died on July 22, 2017 in Kiev [3] .

The farewell ceremony was held on July 25 [4] .

  • The son is a journalist, TV presenter, actor, and public figure Mykola Veresen ( Sytnik, Nikolai Konstantinovich ) (b. 1960).
