Broadvoice

BroadVoice is a brand of software products and algorithms - Broadcom's high-quality voice codecs , unlike the popular G.729 G.723, are completely free. Distributed under the LGPL license, consisting of: C source code with the implementation of two codecs :

  • BroadVoice32 with a sampling frequency of 16kHz and a bandwidth of 32 kbps.
  • BroadVoice16 with a sampling frequency of 8kHz and a bandwidth of 16 kbps.

Both codecs have fixed and floating point implementations. The fixed-point version is less resource-intensive, and therefore more suited for mobile devices. Compared to G.711 , G.726 , and G.722, Broadcom codecs are less demanding of processor and memory resources, they are distinguished by a small algorithmic delay — 5 ms (instead of 15-40 ms for G.711 - G.729 on similar equipment) , respectively - lower processor load and high voice quality, higher coding efficiency due to higher sampling rate.
