“Volkodav. The Right to the Side ” is the second novel of the Russian writer Maria Semenova from the Wolfhound series of novels. The beginning of the writing of the novel dates back to November 1, 1995, the end - October 22, 1996. The original book was published in 1996. The novel is a continuation of the adventures of the Wolfhound, the last surviving representative of the Viennese clan Gray Dogs. Story
Having passed through the Gates, Wolfhound and his companion, Arrant Evrich, continue to travel. In the process of the novel, their initial goal is revealed - to reach the Island of Salvation and find there the ship, which is the means of transport of Tilorn. Wolfhound and Evrich decide to go to the city of Kondar and buy a place on a sea ship.
On the way to Kondar, they are joined by two more companions - Sigina, who is looking for her sons, and Reitamir, saved by the Wolfhound and Evrich from the rapist husband. Also, during the journey, Wolfhound learns that the invincible martial art of kan-kiro created in the name of Love supposedly fell into bad hands - somewhere a mentor appeared who could teach anyone this art.
Arriving in Kondar, Wolfhound and Evrich are delayed there for the reason that Sigina and Reitamira are with them. Then, through the fault of Eurich, they steal a wallet with all the money prepared to buy a place on the ship. Travelers stay in Kondar in order to earn this money. The wolfhound first works as a security guard in the Seganskaya Zubatka tavern , then as a bodyguard for Viona, the wife of the jeweler Uloykho, who, as a result, the Wolfhound has to be rescued from the servants of the Moran of Death.
Having accumulated enough money, Wolfhound and Evrich buy a place on the ship, which is sent to Tin-Vilena - the place where the kan-kiro mentor showed up. A boy named Yarra sets off on a journey with them, who has lost his parents in foreign lands due to the unkind will of other people and now wants to return to his homeland.
During sailing, the ship enters a storm . The current carries him to the rock, which many ships had previously encountered and which has its own name - the Horseman. When approaching the cliff Wolfhound, Evrich and Yarra are overboard, but can not withstand the current. The ship with the crew crashes, but the main characters survive the will of fate. After spending the night on a rock, they discover, not far from the rock, the shore of the Cloudy Ridge - a mountainous area, the birthplace of Yarra.
Further, the main characters meet with two tribes waging a war among themselves - shan-itiguli and kvar-itiguli. By the will of fate, Wolfhound and Eurych have to participate in twinning with both tribes, after which they try to arm these tribes among themselves. This is also facilitated by the destruction of the settlements of both tribes and the need to build a common village in the Valley of the Ringing Streams - on the spot that the tribes wanted to use as a battlefield.
Then Wolfhound and Evrich are sent to Tin-Vilena. They already know that the kan-kiro mentor appeared in the fortress of the Twin Gods. After some time, the Wolfhound learns that this mentor is the mother of Kendrat, who had taught this art before the Wolfhound. She was lured into the fortress by deceit, and she became a slave. The wolfhound decides to free her from serving in the fortress, meeting her in a duel and defeating her, thereby proving that he is the best warrior, and that he should be a mentor in the fortress instead of Kendrat’s mother. Thus, Evrich and Wolfhound break up. And then the fate of the Wolfhound depends on the outcome of the match with Kendarat.
Having come together in a duel, Wolfhound defeats his mother Kendarat and becomes a mentor to the warriors of the Twin Gods in the fortress, as he thinks, forever. Mother Kendarat is being released. And Evrich, having met and talking with her, gets on the ship and continues the journey with the goal of fulfilling the vow to Tilorn.
