Biography
Burmov was born in Gabrov in 1869 , in 1889 he graduated from a military school in Sofia . In 1898 he graduated from a military school in Turin . Then he served in various command posts in the Bulgarian army . In 1904 he was appointed military attache in Austria-Hungary . In 1907 he was appointed commander of the infantry battalion. In 1911, the commander of the infantry regiment.
He participated in the Balkan Wars as chief of staff of an infantry division. In 1915, Bulgaria entered the First World War , although Burmov was not a supporter of the war and considered the decision of Bulgarian politicians to take the side of Germany erroneous. However, Burmov was appointed commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and took an active part in the defeat of the Serbian forces in Macedonia . Also, units under the command of Colonel Burmov take an active part in the battle for Krivolak, successful for the Bulgarians.
In April 1916, Burmov was appointed commander of the 10th Infantry Division . Participated in hostilities on the coast of the Aegean . In 1917, Burmov was awarded the rank of Major General and he was appointed commander of the 2nd Infantry Division in Macedonia . On July 17, 1918, Burmov was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Army.
Burmov was one of the main culprits of the breakthrough by the Allied forces of the Bulgarian front. With the onset of the Entente offensive , Burmov did not attach much importance to breaking through the front and hoped that the situation would soon be restored, but he did not take into account that many Bulgarian units had already refused to fight and demanded peace .
After the war, Burmov became a military researcher; shortly before his death, Burmov was awarded the rank of lieutenant general . He died in Sofia on December 23, 1936 .
