History
The university was founded in 1958 in Shenyang as the Shenyang Institute of Light Industry (Chinese 沉 阳 工业 大学, Pinyin: Shěnyáng Gōngyè Dàxué). In 1970, he was transferred to Dalian and renamed the Dalian Institute of Light Industry (Chinese 大连 轻工业 学院, Pinyin: Dàlián Qīnggōngyè Xuéyuàn). In 2006, it was improved and acquired the status of a university. This is the only higher education institution in northeast China specializing in light , food , textile industries and modern design. About 15,000 students are enrolled in DPU on 85 acres (340,000 m2) of campus . Disciplines taught: engineering , science , art , management and economics .
