Examination

Examination (from Latin exaratio - plowing), or glacial plowing - an exogenous geomorphological process of destruction by a glacier of rocks composing it with a bed of rocks , followed by removal of destruction products in the form of boulders, gravel, pebbles, sand and clay.

For continental and mountain glaciers, an examination zone is identified close to the feeding area, where the glacier performs only destructive work. Here, relief forms such as troughs , ram's foreheads , curly rocks , etc. are formed. Often, the entire sedimentary cover is taken out and massive crystalline bedrock is exposed, on which the glacier forms characteristic grooves, scars, and hatching . Outside this zone, exacration can also occur, but in parallel with glacial accumulation, in particular, during the formation of drumlins .

As a result of continental glaciation in Europe, a large examination zone was formed on the territory of the Baltic Shield . As a result of the examination, a layer of crystalline rocks 60 m thick was removed on the territory of the Baltic Shield.

Also in the Russian scientific community there is a term: examination of the bottom with sea ice / hummock formations ( ice plowing ) - plowing of the bottom (mainly marine) of the underwater part of hummock formations . ^{[1] [2]} Abroad, the term “exazation” is not used to refer to the processes of interaction between ice and the seabed. Instead, in the USA, for example, the term “ ” (ice gouging) is used, and in Canada - “ice scouring” (ice erosion).
