Born in the county of Dykfo ( Đức Ph Ку) in the province of Quang Ngai , after leaving school in 1955 he moved to Hanoi . He studied geology , worked as a cartographer. In 1959 he joined the Communist Party.
Since 1987 - Deputy Prime Minister. Since June 1996, as part of the Political Bureau of the CPV. September 24, 1997, elected President of Vietnam, re-elected in 2002 . He resigned on June 24, 2006 .
In 1997 he was awarded the Order of Friendship [1]
In 2005, he noted that the main efforts of the country's leadership in recent years have been aimed at developing its economy and improving the living standards of the people [2] .
