Toyokawa ( 豊 川 市 Toyokawa-si ) is a city in Japan located in the southeastern part of Aichi Prefecture on the banks of the lower reaches of the Toyo River. It was founded on May 1, 1969 by combining the villages of Toyokawa, Usikubo , Kokufu and the village of Yavata, Hoi County. The area of the city is 160.79 km² [1] , the population is 181,134 people (June 1, 2014) [2] , the population density is 1,126.53 people / km². The city is a center of engineering (including the optical industry) and woodworking.
