Berchtesgaden National Park is Germany's only alpine national park in the Alps . Located in the Bavarian district of Berchtesgaden . The park covers an area of 210 km² and is part of the Berchtesgaden Biosphere Reserve , officially recognized by UNESCO in 1990 .

Geography
Berchtesgaden National Park is located mainly in the communities of Ramsau-Berchtesgaden and Schönau am Königssee . In the east, south and southwest it borders on the Austrian federal state of Salzburg . The park is located at an altitude of 603.3 m ( Königssee ) to 2 713 m above sea level ( Watsmann ).
In the park there is a mountain lake Funtensee ( German: Funtensee ), in the area of which the lowest temperature in Germany in winter was recorded.
Fauna
Of the large mammals in the park, one can meet European roe deer , red deer , chamois and alpine mountain goat , the latter being re-introduced only in the 1930s . Alpine marmot , white hare and snow vole are classified as small species. Among the 100 species of birds nesting in the park, the golden eagle , the boreal owl , the passerine owl , the hazel grouse , the grouse , the capercaillie , the ptarmigan , the raven , the alpine jackdaw , the cedar and the red-winged stenolac are characteristic . On occasion, you can see the white-headed vulture and bearded man . The park has 16 species of amphibians and reptiles and 15 species of fish. These include several endangered species, such as viper , copperfish , Alpine salamander , fire salamander , gray spotted newt , yellow-bellied toad , Arctic char and brown trout . Typical types of insects are alpine barbel and common apollo .
