Biography
Born in the Birža parish ( Kaln parish , Friedrichstadt county , now Jekabpils region ). After graduating from school in Cesis, he volunteered for the Russian imperial army. He participated in the battles of the First World War . He graduated from one of the Moscow military schools as an ensign (1915), after graduating from the school he was sent to the front. Subsequently, he achieved transfer to the newly formed battalions of Latvian riflemen . In July 1917 he was seriously wounded and after the operation, due to the collapse of the Western Front, he was evacuated to Petrograd .
He returned to Latvia after the conclusion of the Brest Peace . In the spring of 1919, Greens was mobilized into the army of the Latvian SSR , however, during her retreat, he sided with the troops of the Republic of Latvia. In 1920, Alexander Green received the rank of captain of the Latvian army. From 1920 to 1924 he worked as a military journalist, was the deputy editor-in-chief of the Latvian Army magazine Latvian. In 1924 he retired and began his career as a professional writer. In 1932-34, he published two volumes of the novel about World War I, "Souls in a Snow Whirlwind" ( Latvian: Dvēseļu putenis ). In 1939, Alexander Green returned to military service, took part in protecting the state border of Latvia.
After the annexation of Latvia by the Soviet Union, in June 1941 he was arrested by the NKVD officers and taken to Astrakhan , where he was shot on Christmas Day that year.
