Biography
The son of Major General K.P. Denisov and the nephew of Count F.P. Denisov , was born in the village of Pyatizbyanskaya in the 2nd Don District of the Great Don Army .
In 1775, he was taken out by his father who went to work in St. Petersburg , where he studied science in a private boarding school. At the age of 13, according to the custom of that time, he was enlisted as a Cossack , on April 12, 1777 , received the rank of Yesaul , and in 1780 he was promoted to lieutenant .
In 1787, Denisov was appointed to the Novo-Don army under the command of Colonel Platov, where he formed the Cossack regiment, at the head of which he took part in the Russo-Turkish War of 1787-1792 . He distinguished himself during the assault of Ishmael in 1790 (he first went to one of the bastions) and was awarded the Order of St. George of the 4th class . In 1791 he again distinguished himself in the Battle of Machin and was awarded a nominal gold medal.
In 1792 and 1794 he fought with the Polish Confederates . Commanding the five Don Cossack regiments at the forefront of the corps of Major General F.P. Denisova , especially distinguished himself in the battle of September 29 (October 10), 1794 at Macejovica , where, according to his memoirs (confirmed by archival sources and testimonies of Kostyushko during the investigation), he captured Lieutenant General Tadeusz Kosciuszko wounded in battle by the enemy’s troops, he bandaged his wounds and ordered his cousin, the commander of the Don Regiment, Vasily Denisov, to take Kosciuszko from the battlefield on a stretcher from Cossack cloaks. He received several injuries in battles and was awarded several orders. In 1796, a volunteer took part in the Persian campaign .
In 1799, with brilliance, he showed his military abilities in the Italian and Swiss campaigns of Suvorov , commanding all the Cossack regiments, was promoted to major general (for the battle of Novi ) and awarded several orders. In 1805-1806 he served as the punish ataman of the Don Army.
He took part in the campaign of 1807 against the French in eastern Prussia and in 1808-1811 was at the theater of operations with the Turks . During the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Overseas campaign of the Russian army of 1813-1814, he served in the Don as ataman and governor of the Don Cossack Region. After the battle of Borodino, he formed and in September 1812 sent to the Main Army under the command of Field Marshal M.I. Kutuzov an additional 26 militia Cossack regiments. In 1813, “For Prudent Orders,” he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general .
After the death of M.I. Platov , in 1818, he was appointed Don Ataman. He made an attempt to reform the life and structure of the Army. But in drafting a new provision on the Army, he encountered opposition and intrigues from the noble clans, sent and supported from St. Petersburg by the close associate of Alexander I, Adjutant General A. I. Chernyshev , because of which A.K. Denisov was removed from office by the emperor in 1821, but at first he himself resigned due to disagreement with attempts by representatives of the tsarist government to curtail internal self-government, economic autonomy, and other rights of the Don Cossacks.
An investigation was opened against him and a number of other distinguished and honored Don warlords. Although no charges were brought against him, the lawsuit was not closed for a long time. However, the draft code (law) proposed by Andrian Denisov on the structure and special status of the Region of the Great Don Army was adopted in 1835 and entered the code of laws of the Russian Empire .
In recent years, he lived in his estate Anastasievka Miussky District [2] , was engaged in writing memoirs , which, partly after his death, were published in the journal " Russian Antiquity ". He died in 1841. In August 1904, his name (as honorary chief) was assigned to the 7th Don Cossack Regiment .
