John Wood Sr. is a prominent representative of Georgian architecture , built in the classical style. The father of architect John Wood Jr.
John Wood Sr. designed and built many buildings and entire streets in the coastal city of Bath in southeastern England , for which he received the nickname Batsky . Beginning in 1724, J. Wood built Circus in Bath, in which the lower floor is decorated with Doric columns, the middle - with Ionic, and the upper - with Corinthian; St. John's Hospital ; buildings of the Northern and Southern Parade , etc.
In addition, the master created the building of the Bristol Exchange (1740-43) and the City Council of Liverpool (1748). Many of the structures erected by Wood are decorated with Masonic symbols.
John Wood Sr. also belongs to the creation of the most accurate Stonehenge plan for its time (published in 1740).
