Biography
Born in Tula in the family of a priest. He studied at the Tula Theological Seminary from 1799, then at the Yaroslavl Demidov Higher School of Economics and the St. Petersburg Pedagogical Institute (since 1810). After graduation, he was sent to the city of Novy Oskol, Kursk province, as a teacher of public schools.
In 1814 he entered the historical and philological faculty of Kharkov University . Even during the preparation of the dissertation, the young man attracted the attention of teachers with his abilities for languages and humanities, in connection with which he was attracted to lecture ( German language and literature ) - a very rare case in those years. [1] He gave private lessons, was a teacher of the Russian language of the writer N. A. Melgunov . In July 1819, he was approved as an adjunct “by Russian literature”.
Engaged in the organization of literary evenings , published in the first Kharkov journal Kharkov Democritus (1816), participated with E. M. Filomafitsky in the publication of the journal Ukrainian Herald (1816-1818), publishing his translations from German, French and Italian languages and literary works. He was in absentia admitted to the Free Association of lovers of Russian literature in St. Petersburg .
He died on August 26, 1819 in Kharkov "from a nervous fever ."
Creativity
Gonorsky’s creative legacy, which lived only 28 years old, consists of theoretical works (“Something about Our Fiction and Russian Literature in General”), a number of articles on the problems of Russian versification, translations of ancient authors ( Virgil , Horace , Catullus , Ovid , Properia , Tibulla ), biographical essays, finally, his own poetic and prose works.
