Boputatswana is one of the Bantustusts of the Republic of South Africa of apartheid times. The state was founded in 1977 . The international community, except for some Bantustans, such as Siskey and Venda , was not recognized.

Arose as a result of the policy of apartheid in the Republic of South Africa. The ethnic composition of Bantustan was mono-ethnic; representatives of the Tswana nationality lived in it. Despite this, the official languages of the state, in addition to Tswana , were also English and Afrikaans .

Geography and Economics
Consisted of seven enclaves . In fact, he was the richest of all Bantustans due to the large number of minerals. In particular, platinum exports brought huge profits. Vanadium , chromium , asbestos , and granite were also mined. Arable land occupied only about 10% of the total area of the state.
Bantustan earned money on the gambling business . Since gambling and prostitution were banned on the territory of South Africa itself, people went to have fun in Sun City , the local counterpart of Las Vegas , opened in 1977. Such famous performers as Beach Boys , Queen , Black Sabbath , Frank Sinatra , Elton John , Sarah Brightman , Cliff Richard , Leo Sayer , Julio Iglesias , Lisa Minelli , Rod Stewart and others performed in the city. At the same time, many artists refused to play concerts, for example, Tom Jones said: “As long as the black population is oppressed in this country, while there are bantustans that resemble more of a concentration camp, I will not cross the border of South Africa.”
Liquidation
In 1994 , when Nelson Mandela and Frederic de Klerk agreed to transfer power to South Africa to the black majority, Boputatswan President Lucas Mangope refused to join Bantustan to South Africa. However, unrest began in it, as a result of the struggle of various groups, people began to die, and the army, having disengaged from the president, forced him to flee Boputatsvana. The interim government, soon appointed, agreed to join South Africa.
