History

The village of Karakubstroy was founded in 1933 in connection with the construction of mines for the extraction of limestone . Since 1949 it has a modern name.

The status of the city was assigned in 1956 [3] [4] .

In 1971, the population was 15.8 thousand people, fluxing limestone was mined here, food industry enterprises and an industrial technical college were operating [3] .

As of the beginning of 1991, the basis of the city’s economy was the extraction of flux limestones [4] .

In May 1995, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision on the privatization of the mine department located here [5] , in July 1995 a decision was approved on the privatization of the bakery [6] .

In 1997, the vocational school No 68 located in the city was combined with the vocational school No 79 [7] .

Since the spring of 2014 - as part of the Donetsk People's Republic .

On May 12, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine assigned the city the name Kalmius in the framework of the decommunization campaign in Ukraine [8] . The renaming was not recognized by the authorities of the self-proclaimed DPR [9] .

Economics

Mining of fluxing limestones ( Komsomolskoye Ore Mining Directorate ). More than 50% of those employed in the national economy work in industry.
