History
Her customer, Francesco Sassetti, was a Medici client and one of the founders of their bank.
The chapel was originally dedicated to St. Francis , but after Sassetti acquired it in 1478, she received a second dedication to Christmas, hence the two main iconographic subjects of her painting. Ghirlandaio took the cycle of frescoes as a sample for the plot of Francis’s life in the Chapel of Bardi in the church of Santa Croce , but interpreted it in his own way [1] .

| The lunette above the entrance arch with the majolica coat of arms of Sassetti depicts a vision of Emperor Augustus on Capitol Hill and the Tiburtine Sibyl, which interpreted this vision as a sign of the coming of a new god, that is, Christ. | ||
| Next to the grisaille is a statue of David on a pillar with a Corinthian capital. On his shield, the coat of arms is written Sassetti, and the stone in the mantle is an allusion to the surname (stone strike - “sassata”). |

| Adoption of the Charter of the Franciscan Order by Pope Honorius III | At the right edge are Lorenzo Medici, Antonio Pucci and Francesco Sassetti with 12-year-old son Federico. On the contrary - the three eldest sons of the customer. Angelo Poliziano with the sons of Lorenzo Medici, whom he raised, Matteo Franco and Luigi Pulchi, climb the stairs at the bottom of the picture. | |
| Resurrection of the son of a Roman notary | This is a miracle of St. Francis, committed by him posthumously. Initially, another plot was conceived here - “The Appearance of Francis to His Brothers”, more solemn. The change of topic is presumably related to the fact from the history of the Sassetti family: in 1479 the eldest son of the customer, a 19-year-old boy, died, and in May of that year, another spouse was unexpectedly born to the elderly spouses, whom they named by the same name. Although a miracle happened in Rome, Florence is depicted in a fresco, at the very edge of the stage a portal with closed shutters is the house of Sassetti. | |
