Itoigawa ( 糸 魚 川 市 Itoigawa-si ) is a city in Japan located in the southwestern part of Niigata Prefecture . It was founded on June 1, 1954 by combining the village of Itoigawa and the villages of Uramoto, Shimohayakawa, Kamihayakawa, Yamatogawa, Nishiumi, Ono, Neti, Otaki. On April 1, 2005 , the villages of No and Omi of Nishikubiri County became part of the city.
