Occupation

According to legend, Saint Celeste, priest, and Saint Felix , deacon , together with Saint Clement , the first bishop of Metz , arrived on the banks of the Moselle from Rome to preach the Gospel [1] .

In 852, Drogo , Bishop of Metz, decided to transfer the relics of St. Celeste to Marmoutier (in Alsace ), along with the body of St. Authors , the thirteenth bishop of Metz [2] . According to legend, they decided to carry the relics of two saints through the city and in front of them were going to carry the relics of St. Authors, as more glorified. However, the procession could not budge until the relics of St. Selest were put in the first place [3] .

In 1525 , during the peasant war in Germany , Protestants desecrated the monastery church of Marmoutier and mixed the relics of Celeste with the relics of other saints, so it became impossible to distinguish them [2] .
