Biography

From the princely family of Ruzhinsky . From childhood, Roman was Orthodox, but after 1605 he converted to the Roman Catholic faith.

Since 1600, he fought under the command of the hetman of the full crown Stanislav Zholkevsky . During the Rokosh Nikolai Zebrzydowski (1606-1609), Prince Roman Rozhinsky fought on the side of King Sigismund III Vasa. In 1607, he participated in the defeat of the Rokoshans in the battle of Guzov . Then, with a small detachment, the hussar left the army of the king. Having borrowed money from the Krakow governor Nikolai Zebrzydowski (about 60 thousand zlotys on the security of his lands), he gathered an army to march on the Russian kingdom .

Arrived at the camp of False Dmitry II in Orel , where in April 1608 he made a coup, having removed the post of commander-in-chief Nikolai Mekhovetsky , and became the hetman of the impostor's troops.

As hetman (commander-in-chief of the impostor’s troops), he negotiated with the Moscow Tsar Vasily Ivanovich Shuisky . On May 10–11, 1608, in the battle of Bolkhov , commanding a 13-thousand-strong army, he defeated the superior forces of the Russian army under the command of Prince Dmitry Ivanovich Shuisky . June 28, 1608 years defeated the new Russian army under the command of Prince Vasily Fedorovich Masalsky in the battle on Khodynka , captured Prince Masalsky and captured a large convoy.In July, R. Ruzhinsky with his troops again defeated the royal regiments, which stood on and the Tver road under the capital.

He contributed to the marriage of False Dmitry II with Marina Mnishek . After the collapse of the Tushino camp, Roman Rozhinsky with Polish units decided to join the army of King Sigismund III . During the retreat, his detachment rebelled again and suffered injuries, which revealed recent injuries, as a result of which Roman Rozhinsky died on April 4, 1610 in the Joseph-Volokolamsk monastery , was buried in the Dominican church in Kiev .

His widow, Sophia Karabchevskaya, remarried the cousin of Vilno Jerome (Yarosh) Khodkevich (1560-1617).
