Herpetic encephalitis is an acute infectious disease caused by the herpes simplex virus . It is characterized by cerebral and focal symptoms of damage to the nervous system . Entrance gates are mucous membranes or skin [1] [2] .

The disease begins acutely. The temperature rises immediately, meningeal symptoms appear, and epileptic seizures occur. In cerebrospinal fluid pleocytosis with a predominance of lymphocytes is detected, the protein content increases, up to about 2-3 g / l, and mild xanthochromia also appears [1] .

The course is usually severe. Mortality is much higher than with other viral diseases of the central nervous system . The consequence is often dementia . There are times when the patient fully recovers without consequences [1] .
