Biography
Buddy Guy started playing guitar at the age of 13. In the early 1950s, he moved to Baton Rouge , where he performed with local music groups. The novice musician was too shy, because of which he often spoke with his back to the audience, but this did not stop him from soon finding his own significant repertoire. In 1957, Guy moved to Chicago , where the famous musician Muddy Waters took him under his protection.
After recording two singles on a small record company, Guy began working with Chess Records , as a result of which the album I Left My Blues in San Francisco was released in 1967. Guy performed as a session musician for blues luminaries such as Muddy Waters , Howlin Wolfe, Little Walter and Coco Taylor . In the 1960s, his duet took shape with Junior Wells ; the result of the work of the musicians was several recorded albums.
By the end of the 60s, the popularity of blues began to decline steadily, as a result of Buddy Guy was forced to earn extra money on the side. However, his career went uphill in the late 1980s - in the wake of a resurgence of interest in blues. He participated in Eric Clapton's concerts, and Damn Right, I've Got the Blues , recorded on Silvertone Records in 1991, earned him his first Grammy Award. Subsequently, he was awarded four more times this award.
In 2003, he was awarded the US National Medal of Arts.
In 2005, the name of Buddy Guy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame [1] . Rolling Stone magazine included him in the list of one hundred of the best guitarists in the world, where Guy took the 23rd line. Buddy Guy also owns his own blues club in Chicago. [2]
In 2019, he recorded the song with Kristone "Kingfish" Ingram, which was included in Kingfish's debut album " Kingfish". [3]
