It is close to the voiced velar spirant / ɣ / and is often described that way. Often is an allophone / g / (for example, in Spanish or tagalog ) or / ɣ /.

It is also found in the languages Navajo , Icverre , Marshall , Yurok , some Australian ( Tiwi , Arranta , Ivatyan , including Ivaid ). In Assamese there is a deaf velar [ɰ̥], which is also often recorded and described as [x] or [χ].
