Bahrain has participated in the 9th Summer Olympics since 1984, and has never participated in the Winter Olympics . The largest delegation (33 athletes) represented Bahrain at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro .

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Rashid Ramsay won 1,500 meters but was later disqualified. At the 2012 Olympics in London, Mariam Yusuf Jamal won a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter race , but after disqualification of two Turkish runners, she received gold. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Eunice Kirva won the silver medal in marathon, and Ruth Jebet became the second Olympic champion in Bahrain's history, winning the 3000m hurdles.
