Tenuta dell'Ornellaia ( Russian. Tenuta del Ornellaia ) - well-known Italian winery, located in the Tuscan subregion Bolgheri . Produces dry red wines from its own vineyards:
- "Supertuscan" Ornellai Bolgheri Superiore ( Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore DOC )
- Le Serre Nuove del Ornellaia Bolgheri red (Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC Rosso)
- Le Volte Toscana (Le Volte Toscana IGT)
- "Supertuscan" Masseto (Masseto IGT Toscana) .
The farm also produces traditional extra virgin olive oil - Ornellaia Extra Vergine di Oliva and grappa di Ornellaia .
In 1998, Ornellaia wine topped the rating of the authoritative wine magazine Wine Spectator, and in 2001 this rating was headed by Massetto wine [1] .
The farm was founded in 1981 by a representative of the famous wine-making family Antinori - Marquis Lodovico Antinori, with the direct participation of the famous Californian wine-maker, “father of Californian cabernet sauvignon ”, Andrei Chelishchev . The site for the vineyard was specially chosen in the Bolgheri Tuscan subregion, located near the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea . As the creators expected, it is here, thanks to a combination of mild Mediterranean climate and the characteristics of local soils, Bordeaux grape varieties will produce wine at least equal to the world famous Sassicaia .
Over the years, the farm has changed its owners several times. Robert Mondavi, a famous Californian winemaker and co-owner of the wine holding Frescobaldi-Mondavi (Frescobaldi-Mondavi) , first acquired a controlling stake in the economy from Antinori, and soon became the full owner. In June 2002, 50% of the shares of the farm became the property of Marchesi de Frescobaldi (Marchesi de'Frescobaldi) , which owns the famous wineries Luce della Vite and Castel Giocondo . Since 2006, the farm is fully part of the Marchesi de Frescobaldi group of companies of the Tenute di Toscana holding, owned by the famous Italian wine-growing family of Frescobaldi, considered to be one of the best wine producers in Italy and in the world, worthy followers of the direction of the creation of "supertuscan" wines, and the company " SPI " [2] [3] [1] .
