Windsborn is one of the rare crater lakes north of the Alps . It has the shape of a circle and is surrounded by a sheer wall with a height of 20-30 m. The walls consist of red-brown ash and slag-shaped lava, ejected originally by a volcano. The depth of the lake is approx. 1.70 m. There are few nutrients in the water, as the lake has no tributaries and sinks. The vegetation around the lake ( watch , marsh cinquefoil , etc.) is protected. Due to the small depth of the lake and the uniqueness of the biotope , fishing was prohibited.
