Life and creativity
Claude Vignon was born into a wealthy family in Tours. The master of the Baroque era, he studied painting in Paris with Jacob Bunel. In 1610, he went to Rome where, under the influence of Caravaggio 's creativity, he mastered the technique of chiaroscuro . In 1616, Vignon returned to France, where he became a member of the Paris Guild of Artists. He went to Rome for the second time the following year. In 1623, the artist worked in Spain . Married in 1624 to Charlotte de Leu, daughter of the engraver Thomas de Leu. In 1625 he returned to his homeland to take the post of court artist. He painted canvases commissioned by Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu for the Louvre and Palais Royal palaces.
