Honda, who missed the race in France, returned to the championship. The regular participants were also joined by local racers Alan Reese and David Hobs (for the latter it was a debut in Formula 1), as well as Swiss Silvio Moser. In the race Pierce Carige was also supposed to start at BRM, but after training had mechanical problems on the car of the main pilot of the Jackie Stewart team, Chris Irwin gave his car to the Scotsman and started on the Carrage car. At the beginning of the race, Jim Clark and Graham Hill alternately led, but the breakdown of the rear suspension, and then the engine, forced the latter to stop the race. Clark won a second victory of the season.
