Jeanne Eagels ( born June 26, 1890 - October 3, 1929 ) is an American actress. Reached popularity on Broadway , where she was one of Siegfeld’s Girls. Later, having left the theatrical stage, she moved to the cinema, where she starred in several films.

In 1929, the Eagles was supposed to return to Broadway again to participate in a new play, but suddenly died in a private clinic in New York at the age of 39. Medical experts disagreed about the exact cause of the Eagles death, but there was information in the press about the abuse of the actress by alcohol and heroin . The actress was posthumously nominated for an Academy Award ( for the first time in cinema history ) for her role in the film Letter , but Mary Pickford received the award.
